AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP By Telegraph.—Press Association. Sydney, August 2. The weather was dull and showery and the course heavy for the first qualifying round of the Australian ladies’ golt championship’. At the end of the first round the leading players were: —Miss Olive Kay (New Zealand), 77; Miss McLeod (-Victoria), 82;’ Mrs. Trlglone (New, South Wales)/82; Miss Hay (Victoria). 84; Mrs. Gatehouse (Victoria), 85; Miss Susie Tolhurst (New South- Wales), 85. Miss Payton and- Mrs. Shailer Weston each took 99. ) Miss Kdj’ played remarkable golt. especially . over the last nine holes, which Mia covered in 35, finishing the round in 77, which broke the Bose Bay record for associates. Miss ’Kay made a-'few’ errors, chiefly on the greens going out, but she played clockwork golf coming home. Miss Snodgrass (New Zealand) is well up on Ladies’ Challenge Bowl (36 holes, stroke handicap) is being played in conjunction with the championship qualifying rounds. Miks Mona McLeod (Victoria) doing the course in 77, equalling Miss Kay’s record yesterday. The latter could not reproduce yesterday’s form and took - 87 to get round. She is the only New Zealander to qualify for the match play starting on Tuesday.
