IMPORTANT ACTIVITIES

Mr. Robb has come out from England to act in conjunction with the Director of the Fields Division and plant research work of the Department of Agriculture (Mr. A. H. Cockayne) in carrying ent the executive side of the scheme of experiments proposed. Writing from Madison. ‘Wisconsin, U.S.A., Dr. E. Marsden, Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, in a letter received yesterday, mentioned that he had investigated many matters connected with x ,'ieat, bacon, mineral deficiency, cold storage, etc., at the research institutes of the States of Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was suffering from an attack of influenza at the time he wrote, but he purposed shortly to visit Chicago and the Bureau of Standards at Washington. Dr. Marsden is expected to return to Wellington about the middle of October. Sir John Russell, director of the Rothamsted Research Institute, who is at present in the Waikato, will visit Massey Agricultural College at Palmerston North on Monday and arrive in Wellington on Tuesday. While here he will attend a meeting of the execu-

tive committee of the New Zealand Institute, and will be the guest of the University Club at luncheon. He will

also meet the members of the Noxious Weeds Research Committee. Sir John Russell will leave on Tuesday night for Nelson, where he will deliver the Cawthron address at the Cawthron Institute.
