RUGBY FOOTBALL

AUCKLAND v. CANTERBURY By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, August 3. The Auckland Rugby team for to-mor-row against Canterbury is:—Backs, Paewai, Minns, Hook (2), Jenkins, and either Jeffries or Falwasser; half-back, Carter; forwards, Linton, Palmer, Finlayson, Wanoa, Batty,. Anderson, Knight, and Cathcart. G. Cox replaces Page as half-back for Canterbury to-morrow, owing to the latter's illness. TO-DAY’S ATTRACTIONS. Some interesting Rugby football games should be witnessed this afternoon. In the senior A competition Poneke, who are leading for the premiership, wall meet Oriental at Athletic Park, and a hard tussle should ensue between the opposing forwards. Oriental are four points behind Poneke, and a victory to the Black and White colours would put them well in the running for championship honours. Patrons of Athletic Park will have au added attraction this afternoon in the form of a trial game between town and country representatives of the senior B grade. This game will commence at 1.15, and the Poneke-Oriental match at 2.45. At Newtown Park. University and Marist will oppose each other. Old Boys will oppose Petonc on Petono Oval; Athletic and Berhampore will try conclusions on Wakefield Park; and Wellington will make a raid on Eastbourne. i THE ALL BLACKS. The New Zealand team will meet a Border fifteen at East London to-day, and should have little difficulty in placing another victory to their credit. On Wednesday next the All Blacks will play a return match against, the Border representatives at Kingwilllamstown. MINOR UNIONS' . MATCH. In order to give the minor unions an opportunity of showing if they have any players worthy of inclusion in the New Zealand team to meet New South Wales this season, the New Zealand Rugby Union have -arranged a North Island v. South Island trial watch for this afternoon at Palmerston North. Play will commence at 2.45 to enable tliosi? travelling from between Palmerston North and Wellington to view lhe match to return by the train which leaves Palmerston North at 5.10 p.iu. A good game should result. It- is improbable that’George Nepla ,or J. Mill, the two famous 1921 All Blacks, will he able to appear for the North Island, as Nepla Is on the sick list and Mill is reported to be held up by flooded rivers on Iho East Coast.
