POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK

BIG DECREASE IN WITHDRAWALS

The marked improvement In the financial and trading position of the Dominion shown by the recently published banking and trade returns is reflected in the Post Office Savings Bank figures for the quarter ended June 30, 1928, published in last night’s Gazette.

Although the deposits for the quarter were £179,871 less than for the corresponding period of last year, there was a marked decrease in wither wals of nearly £400,000. The excess of withdrawals over deposits during the quarter was £527,002, compared with £745,050 for the corresponding period of last year, a decrease of £218,045. The heaviest excess of withdrawals over deposits was £169,036 in the Auckland postal district. The excess of withdrawals in the Wellington district was £48,827, which was nearly £lO,OOO less than in Dunedin or Hamilton.
