y . .. . MR. T. F. MARTIN RESIGNS SECRETARYSHIP. Mr. W. J. Rogers (Wanganui) presided at a meeting of the executive committee of tbe Municipal Association of New Zealand, held in \Vellington yesterday. There were present the following Mayors : Messrs. G. A. Troup (Wellington), Rev. J. K. Archer (Christchurch), W. J; Moffatt (Nelson), E. Aldridge (Dunedin), T. Jordan (Masterton), A. J. Graham (Palmerston North),-and G. J. Wallace (Tirnaru). Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from the Mayors of Auckland, Dannevirkc, and Invercargill. The business of the meeting in the main was consideration of the amendments to the Municipar Corporation Act, now before Parliament. These were discussed in detail, and a committee consisting of the president, and Messrs Archer, Jordan, and Troup, were appointed to give evidence before a committee, of tbe House; . * The resignation as secretary of the association of Mr. T. F. Martin, was received, that gentleman being absent through indisposition. Flattering references were made to the splendid work Mr. Martin had done for the association over a very long period of years, indeed, from the very inception of the association, which he assisted to found. The following resolution was passed :— “That the executive committee of the Municipal Association of-New Zealand accepts with sincere regret thp resignation of Mr. T..F. Martin as secretary and solicitor of the association. We desire to place on record our grateful appreciation of the serveces which he has rendered with such conspicuous ability throughout the life of the association, extending oyer a period of 39 years. In all matters. municipal, he has established a Do-minion-wide reputation, and his resignation leaves a place in the life of the association that it will be exceedingly difficult to fill. We sincerely trust that his retirement from the active work of the association will not lessen his interest in municipal affairs, and that he may still be spared to have many happy experiences of life.” Mr. J. M.’Martin, son of Mr. T. 1. Martin, was appointed to carry on as acting-secretary, uijtil the next municipal conference.
