CITY COUNCIL
GENERAL BUSINESS The Wellington City Council met last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), presiding, Councillors J. Aston, W. H. Bennett, W. J- Gaudin, T. C. A. Hislop, F. Meadowcroft, H. p. Bennett, H. A. Huggins. F. M. Luckie, B. G. 11. Burn, R. W. NcWly, R- McKeen, R. Semple, G. Mitchell, C. D. Morpeth, and J. Burns. ... . An application for permission to erect a petrol service station in .Hunter Street was not approved. It was reported that a deputation from the Wellington Live Stock Butchers Association had waited upon the Abattoirs Committee with regard to the provision of a chillev at the abattoirs. The matter is receiving attention. . Plans and specifications are to be prepared and tenders called for extensions to the ladies’ conveniences at .Williams Park, Day’s Bay, provision having been made in the estimates. , A request from the Dominion Farmers Institute that the garden plot at the corner of Featherston Street and Ballance Street be reinstated was not approved. A telephone is to be installed at th© residence of the caretaker, Kaiori Park. No action was taken regarding the request of the Wellington Automobile Club for the formation of an additional motor camp in the city. , Authority was granted for paving work to be undertaken at the junction of Hutt and Onslow Roads. A stormwater drain at Friend Street, Karori, is to be piped at a cost of £22, half the cost to be paid by the property owner. The work of laying the necessary stormwater drains at Hanson and John Streets in connection with the Winter Show building is to be proceeded with as soon as possible. The extension of the footpath at Messines Road, Karori, is to be undertaken during the present financial year, if possible. „ . , — , . A high-level path at Tavistock Road is to be fenced at an estimated cost of £2O, and consideration given in framing next year’s estimates to additional improvements to this street. Albert Street, Island Bay. is to be put in a proper state, of repair provided the property owners pay half the cost,, the street to be taken over by the council as a public street when the work is completed. No action was taken regarding a proposed deviation of Avon Street, Island Bay.
