FIRE
DRAPER’S STOCK DESTROYED.

A fire at about 1.30 this morning partially destroyed a shop occupied by Mr. Mate Peko, a draper, clothier, and tobacconist. A billiard saloon at the real of the premises escaped damage, but the stock in the shop, with the exception of that in the windows, is practically a total loss. The fire had a good hold when discovered, and the brigade made a good The owner, who had been stocktaking, left the premises at 9.30. He cannot account for the outbreak. The premises were owned by Mr. J. C. Grifliths. of Auckland. The insurances are held in the New Zealand Office, but the amounts are not available. Mr. Peko’s loss is a heavy one, but the building is not greatly damaged.
