RATES DOWN

■IN THE HUTT COUNTY. Commenting on the rates for the Hutt county, demands for which have just been issued, the county clerk said yesterday that on the whole, .except for the Hospital rate, they were down. The rates had for the past two years been a matter of great interest to tlie council. It seemed now,'as shown by the rate demand for' this year, that ttj.e council had the matter well in hand. There is a. great prospect of thfe rates being still lower next year. -Not only was it a falling rate, but greater benefits were being obtained. In one riding the rate.was down over a halfpenny, the rating being on the capital value. Next year'should See a water supply at ParaparaumU and at Epuni Hamlet, he added. The.question-of a supply for Plimmerton was also being considered.
