The Golf Cup competition on the Rose Bav links opened in glorious weather, The leaders at the end of the first round, thirty-six holes stroke play, all. competitors on scratch, were two Victorians, Miss Mona McLeod, lady champion of Australia, and Mrs. Alexander Russell. Both gave fine exhibitions of the game. Miss Olive Kay, of Dunedin, lady champion of New Zealand, who has created great interest, hardly did herself justice on the first day, but some of her short approaches were very fine. Miss McLeod and Mrs. Russell each took 84 in the first round. Miss Kay took-93. Mrs. Russell triumphed on the second dav, taking SO, and winning the cup, gl-'so—l64. Miss McLeod was second, 84-82—166, and Miss Morgan (New South Wales) third, 87-84—171. Miss Kay’s score was 93-83—176. She played a vastly improved game on the second day, owing to her greater familiarity with the links. Her long hitting caused admiration, and her approaching. was much more accurate than on the first day. She, however, found the light different from that of New Zealand. Miss Muriel Payton (Rotorua) took 93-91—184, and Miss Snodgress (Rotorua.) 102-96—198. - , „ The stroke handicap (18 holes) was woa by Miss Wynter. Mrs. Shatter Weston (New Zealand) returned a card of 97-4—93 and Miss Payton 93-1—92.
