35 SHOTS A MINUTE POSSIBLE (United Service.) London, July 15. After protracted trials, the B.S.A. Thompson rifle won the British Government's £3OOO prize lor a satisfactory self-loading rifle. The “Dally News” says that: the rifle is of simple construction and easy to handle, enabling 35 shots a minute to be fired,' which is almost twice as many as can be tired by the present handoperated magazine rifle, and also permits of more accurate shooting. It is claimed that, backed up by the modern machine-gui). tlie new rifle will be sufficient to meet any requirement of modern battle tactics.
