POLICE CASES Police cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday were heard before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., Alick McNaughton, aged 64, who appeared on a charge of wilfully breaking a pane of glass valued at £2, the property of Mary Ann Coveney, was convicted and ordered to make good the damage, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. For drunkenness he was convicted and discharged. A remand for one week was granted to Albert Hauke, aged 19, who was charged
with stowing away on the Rotorua at Panama, on June 22. On a charge of behaving in a disorderly manner ’While drunk, Donald Cameron, a labourer, aged 30, was lined £2 and costs, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. Harold Sidney Jacques, aged 23, was sentenced to fourteen days* imprisonment for being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support. Sub-Inspector Lauder stated that accused was found sleeping in ■ coal vard early on Sunday morning. He admitted having been sleeping out for some time. Accused, added Mr. Lander, was out of work, and was destitute. He had been given chances to mako good on previous occasions.
