A BANKING APPOINTMENT. Mr. T. B. Heffer. assistant Inspector of the Bank of New South Wales in New Zealand. has been appointed inspector for the bank in Western Australia. BIG PROFITS FROM SALT Cerebos, Ltd., was formed in 1903 to amalgamate, the rights for all countries in Cerebos salt and other commodities anil to acquire salt wells and works. The company does a good business in New Zealand and Australia. It shows in its accounts, Only just available, that the net profit amounted to £151,429 compared with £08.310 for tho previous year. The dividend has been Increased from 20 to 25 per cent. In October last the capital of the company was increased from £300.000 to £400,000 by a bonus issue. Reserves amounted to £116,054. and there was a capital reserve of £52.543. Properties and plant are valued at £366.923. and general investments at £154.582, while cash is shown at £128.399. Another British company. Salt Union. Ltd.. Liverpool, which was formed in 1888 to consolidate the interests of salt firms in the United Kingdom, and acquired a great many undertakings, made for the year 1927 £265,075 net profit compared with £217.565 for 1026. Production of salt from sea water is carried on in Victoria. South Australia and Queensland, and salt is; also harvested from the beds of lakes in dry weather. ■ ' ■ ■ ■"
