’VARSITY BEAT KARORI DRAW IN TWO SENIOR B GAMES The hockey competitions were continued on Saturday under most favourable weather conditions. Following are the results:— SENIOR A. 'Varsity 3, Karori 1. Y.M.C.A. 2, Hutt 0. Wesley 4, I’etone 2. Wellington, a bye. SENIOR B. Wesley 1, 'Varsity 1. Huia 4, Y.M.C.A. 1. Training College 2, Karori 2. Hutt 4, I’etone 0. SENIOR A ’VARSITY BEAT KARORI. One of the most exciting games of the day was that between ’Varsity aud Karori, the two teams which are leading for the Senior A championship. Hard, and exciting play was seen in both spells. In the opening stages of the game, Karori were the attackers, K. Perrin bcmg prominent. 'Varsity, however, got possession of the ball, and it was not long before Simpson netted. From then on, until the end of the spell, the game was more or less even, neither side being able to penetrate their opponents’ defence. Only a few minutes had passed in the second spell when Simpson netted Ids second goal for the students. Soon after the bully, Sykes brought the score up to: 'Varsity, 3; Karori, 0. After this Karori rallied, and several times approached the students’ goal, but without success. Play returned to the Karori circle for a period, but Karori took it to the other end, where a neat shot by Robb made the score, Karori, 1, 'Varsity, 3. Karori made several more attempts at scoring, but were unable to get into the goal. The game ended : Varsity. 3; Karori, 1. The referee was JMr. U. Etatch. Y.M.C.A. BEAT HUTT. Y.M.C.A. beat Hutt in a game that lacked interest throughout. For a senior A match it was scarcely worth watching. Hutt were playing with four substitutes, which told on the efforts of the team, and had the effect of making the play extremely scrappy. Y.M.C.A. did not seem to be playing up to the mark either, but did their best under the circumstances. The only score in the first half was one by Mead for Y.M.C.A. Play in the second spell was much the same, none of the attacks being of very much use. Early in tho spell Fergusson netted for Y.M.C.A. There was no further score, the game ending: Y.M.C.A. 2, Hutt 0. Mr. R. Lloyd was the referee. SENIOR B Y.M.C.A. v. HUIA. Huia proved too good for Y.M.C.A., whom they beat by four goals to one. Early in the first spell Diaper and Bennett both scored for Huia from corners. Play during both spells was mostly around the Y.M.C.A. area. In the second spell play at one time went down to the Huia area, with the result that Newman scored for Y.M.C.A. < Both teams played a faster game for the rest of the spell, but many attacks on the goals were cut short on account of various breaches. Play returned to the Y.M.C.A. goal when Mclntosh, the goalkeeper, made two remarkable saves. Huia continued the attack, and Cooper scored two more goals before the call of time. The final score was: Huia 4, Y.M.C.A. 1. Mr. J. W.* Russell referee. TRAINING COLLEGE V. KARORL Training . College and Karori were evenly matched. Play was always fairly fast, but there was a tremendous amount of mis-hitting. Soon after the start of the game Dredge scored for Karori. Shortly after this Karori added another goal, this one being scored from the stick of Webley. Training College rallied, and after a hard attack Paul sent a long, high shot into goal. Training College 1, Karori 2. Training College continued to attack and 'it was not long before Ferris equalised the score. The play was on much the same lines in the second spell, in which there was no score. The game ended: Karori 2, Training College 2. Mr. J. Cusack was thp referee. 'VARSITY DRAW WITH WESLEY. The teams in this match were of equal strength, Wesley having what advantage there was during the first spell. Play went from end to end of the field, ana after a considerable time had elapsed Butcher sent the ball into the 'Varsity goal. From then on until the end of the game play was very fast. The stick work of both teams was good and many of the passing shots were extremely neat. In the second spell 'Varsity were the aggressors, and although only one goal was scored, the game did not lack interest. 'Varsity, at one stage, took the ball down to the Wesley goal, outside which there was a long and furious tussle. At the end of this Wylie scored for the students. The final score was: 'Varsity 1, Wesley. 1. Mr. H. J. Smith Old Girls 6, Swifts 1. The scorers for Old Girls were Miss 1. Watson (2). and Miss Hilkie (4). and .for Swifts Miss Pedersen. It was a rather RcraDDV game, both teams playing short handed. Miss Hilkie played fine, consistent hockey both in attack and defence. Old Girls put more ‘ snap into tneir play-
