Mrs. T. Minogle, of Wittier, California, is at present staying in Auckland after a visit to Wellington. Miss E. Foster, who has been the guest of Mrs. A. Culling. 1 -ner. llu t has returned to Christchurch. Miss 11. Baldwin, who ms been the guest of Mrs. J. Molloy, Wellington, is having a tort holiday in Mastcrt n before returning to Christchurch. Miss Frances Henry, daughter of Dr. Henry, left on F’day night for Invercargill, where she will join. the orchestra of the Fuller-Gonzalez Grand Opera Co., for the New Zealand tour.

The death of Mrs. Jessie McNicol, widow of the Rev. David McNicol, occurred in Auckland on Tuesday last. The late Mrs. McNicol, who was in her seventy-ninth year, was born in the South Island. She accompanied her husband on circuits in both islands for the greater part of his long ministry in the Methodist Church, and made many friends throughout the Dominion. She had lived in Auckland for a number of years since her husband’s retirement. Mrs. McNicol enjoyed good .health until five months ago. She is survived by three daughters. Two sons and one daughter predeceased her.

VISITORS TO THE CAPITAL.

Miss Melsop, of Auckland, is a visitor to Wellington.

Miss Beveridge, of Glasgow, who has been staying in Auckland as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Beveridge, Epsom, is in Wellington to farewell her broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mr.-i Buchanan, who are leaving for Scotland. Later Miss Beveridge will return to 'Auckland.

Mrs. B. Holmes, Wanganui, is visiting Wellington to attend the MachAllen wedding.

Mr. W. Craig, Kakatahi, is visiting Wellington.

Miss C. E. Warburton, of Palmerston North, is at present in Wellington.

Mr. and Mis. A. Boyd Turner, of Waipawa, have returned from a visit to Wellington and the Nelson district.

GOING ABROAD. Mrs. Melville Bell, of Hamilton, sailed from Auckland by the Niagara for Sydney- Later she will connect with the Suevic for South Africa, where she intends to spend some months. Mrs. Chisholm. Wanganui, has left for England.

Mrs. M. Bastings and Miss Bastings, of Auckland, left by the Aorangi for it tour of America, accompanied by the former’s daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Franklyn, of Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. W. Richmond, of Hawke’s Bay, have left on a visit to England. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Kennedy, of Napier, have left en route for England. They expect to be away about five months.

At St. David’s Church, Khyber Pass, Auckland, Dorothy, younger daughter of Mr. James Everett and the late Mrs. Everett, of Wanganui, became the wife of Harold Scott, second son of Mr. W. C. Burd and the late Mrs. Burd, of Northland,’ Wellington. The Rev. I. Bertram performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory silk georgette over a pale pink duchess satin made on simple lines. From one side draped to the other were worked diamante sprays of trimming. The tulle embroidered veil formed a train and was held in place by a coronet of pearls with buds of orange blossom and small ear posies- A shower bouquet was carried, consisting of white and pink roses, carnations and mimosa. Miss Len D. Parsonson, the bridesmaid, wore an apple green petalled georgette frock over an embossed chenille underdress worked in silver, a silver lame headdress with green and silver roses on one side. The autumntinted bouquet had ribbons to match the gown. Mr. A. Gordon was best man. The wedding reception was held at the Parnell Tea Kiosk, where Mrs. A. J. Everett (sister-in-law) acted as hostess and wore a bridge lace gown with shoulder rose and hat of iris mauve. Mrs. W. C. Burd wore grey mirror velvet and hat to tone- . » *

A quiet wedding took place on Thursday afternoon at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Auckland, Dr. Buxton olliciating. when Kathleen Amelia, eldest daughter of Mrs. Bishop ami the late Mr. Bishop, Wellington Street, was married to George Eddison, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Davies, Wairiki Road, Mount Eden. At Featherston last Tuesday Gladys Ivy, eldest daughter of Mrs. Sale and the late -Mr. Robert Stubbs, of Surrey, England, was married to Walter Edward, only son of Mr. W. J. Davidson and the late Mrs- A. E. Davidson. The bride was given away by Mr- Davidson. She carried a bouquet of Freesias and maidenhair fern. Miss Sylvia Julian acted as bridesmaid. Mr. G. Julian carried out the duties c" best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Masonic Hall. A dance was held in the Masonic Hall in the evening. Mr. and Mrs- Davidson left later for Hamilton, where they will reside. BACK FROM LONDON. Mrs G. A. Giuu, who has been absent in England and Europe for the last year, returned to Wellington by the Tahiti .ou Saturday. Mrs Ginn, who is very much interested in music, and is a well-known teacher of singing, took lessons from Mr Spencer Clay, and other eminent “teachers of teachers.” She also heard a great deal of wonderful music, tine orchestras, and notable singers in Loudon, Berlin, and Paris. On the voyage out to Australia, her sou, Russell, who accompanied her to England, became ill, and had to be operated upon at sea for appendicitis. The operation was successfully performed, and the boy is fact regaining bis strength. When in London Mrs Ginn saw a good deal of Miss Eileen Driscoll, the Wellington singer, whom she understands, will return to New Zealand at the end of this year. CARNIVAL DANCE.

A very enjoyable carnival dance was held at the Greytown Town Hall on Thursday night. A largo number attended. Supper extras were played by Mrs. R. Tilson. Misses M. To Tan, M. Trotman, S. Hebley, and Messrs. A. To Tau and J. Ashton, all of whom were enthusiastically encored. Paper hats, streamers, balloons, etc., added to the carnival effect, and tho hall had been effectively decorated with coloured streamers by members of the Horticultural Society, tinder tho auspices of which the dance was run. The ladies supplied supper.

On Saturday night a very enjoyable fancy dress party was given by Mrs. Herbert Seifert and Miss Gladys Seifert, at Palmerston North, when some effective and original frocks were worn. Among those present were Mesdames Beardsall, J. Harley, C. Gifford Moore. Misses P. and A. Cornfoot, D. Stevens. E Seifert, L. Fowler, M. Mortland, Marie Sim, E. Trask, O. Haggitt, Dr. F. The settlers of Whareama, Wairarapa, held a successful ball on Friday night. The hall was decorated with fernery and many coloured streamers, and dancers were present in a large number. The monthly committee meeting of the District Nursing Guild of St. John was held nt 95 Ghuznee Street on June 11, Mrs. Albert Stace presiding. The Director-General of Health wro'e thanking the committee for the help given by the district nurses to the student nurses in their post-graduate work. The nurses reported that the cold weather was causing distress to some of their older patients, who could not afford to have fires. The numbe of patients on the register in April was 5419, and in May 5439. Other details were as follow: Registers 1 during month, 20; discharged, 14; dieci 1; removed to convalescent home. 1: remaining in register, 24; total number of visits to homes, 235; number of calls at office, 68. There was a very good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Petone branch of the Plunket Society. A vote of sympathy with Mrs. Nicholson in the sad loss of her brother, Mr. Oscar Ellis, was passed. FRENCH CLUB EVENING. The fortnightly meeting of the French Club was held at the Pioneer Club on Thursday night. Professor Boyd-Wilson presided over a large attendance. The evening was under the joint direction of Miss M. P. Young and Mme. O. Benge, and a delightful programme had been arranged. Miss Mavis Dillon played as pianoforte solos “Invitation a la Valse” (Weber) and Polonaise in A (Chopin). Vocal items were given by Miss Dorothy Russell (“Parceque”), Miss Ailsa Dillon (“Vous Dansez Marquis,’) and "Havanaise”), Miss Kathleen Jansen (“Triste est le Steppe” and “Le SaisTu?”), and Mr Lee (Air de Vulcan). A. very interesting address was given bv Mr Matheson, on the great essayist, Montaigne. Mme. Benge and Mr Matheson presented in admirable fashion a scene from “Si Je Voulais,” and an amusing comedy “Les Exploits de Lucienne” was played by Miss M. P. Young and Mr F. F. Miles. The evening was brought to a close by the singing of the Marseillaise. HATAITAI SCHOOL BAZAAR. A successful bazaar was held at the Hataitai Public School on Saturday afternoon and night. Mr. T. Forsyth. M.P. (chairman Wellington Education Board), and Mrs. Forsyth, were present. Mr. Forsyth declared the bazaar officially opened for business. The chairman of the School Committee (Mr. H. R. Searle) welcomed Mr. and Mrs Forsyth. The school was crowded both afternoon and evening, and splendid results were achieved by the various stall-holders. The general school funds should benefit considerably from the efforts of the ladies of the district, and the two school choirs, who contributed items, in addition to which Mrs. E. Cameron and Miss J. Dunnett sang songs, and Mr. Kitchener gave elocutionary items.
