Some merriment was caused among the spectators at the hunt at Ixaupokonui recently by the antics of one rider s mount (says the Waimate n itness ). The animal was very fractious and kept backing instead of going forward. At one stage of the performance the unruly beast backed right into an overhanging boxthorn hedge, compelling the rider to dismount to avoid being scratched. On the rider mounting again, the horse repeated its trick, seeming to know that the rider would be compelled to dismount or be scratched by the thorns.

An overseas tourist was disgusted when he learned that he had missed the lower part of the Buller Gorge through being advised, while in Australia, by a tourist agent there, to cut -out Westport, as he would see the best part of the Buller Gorge in going only to Inangahua and going on to Greymouth (says the Westport "News”). He learned later of the magnificent scenery in the lower part of the gorge, but it was then too late for him to go back and see it before returning to Australia. He says every precaution should be taken by the Tourist Department to ensure that agents in Australia are chosen from people thoroughly conversant with the wonderful scenery in different parts of the Dominion.
