RECORD HONEY CROP
AUCKLAND'S GOOD HARVEST.
Dominion Special Service.
Auckland, May 11
Produce loaded on the liner Mamari at Queen’s Wharf to-day included a consignment of. 1060 cases, approximately 58 tons’, of honey.. The shipment represents part of .3000 eases delivered in Auckland during April, and graded this month. To illustrate this phase of the industry, a film is being produced by the Government Publicity Department. Nine horse-drawn lorries and a motor truck proceeded in line from the Honey Export Control Board s premises in Stanley Street to the wharf, and were photographed en route. So far this season 2020 eases have been shipped from Auckland to London for distribution in Great Britain and on the Continent, so that the production in Auckland this season Ims already amounted to 5000 cases. The province s honey production should amount to about 7000 cases, or 380 tons, for the season, which has been an excellent one for honey production. .Conservative estimates place the Dominion’s amount greatly in excess of figures for recent seasons and a Dominion record. The greatest quantity of honey produced in any one season hitherto was in Ibl-u, when production totalled 728 ons. The following year it was 600 tons, and. last year owing to unfavourable conditions, the amount dropped to 360 tons.
