WEEK-END ACCIDENTS
FOOTBALLERS INJURED BUSY' TIME FOR AMBULANCE The Free Ambulance had a very busy time on Saturday, a total of twenty-six eases being attended. Ten of this number were accident watching a football match on the side-line at the Prince of Wales Park, 11. G. Monee, retired, of .21 Connaught Terrace, had his right leg. injured as the result of getting mixed up with the players. He was taken to the Public Hospital. C. Dunford, a clerk, residing at 10 Arthur Street, received slight concussion while playing Rugby with Oriental juniors at Kilbirnie. He was taken to the hospital by the Free Ambulance. as was P. J. McGowan, of 41 Ngalo Road, who injured his right knee at Kilbirnie whil playing Rugby for Ouslow thirds.
R. Bell, an electrician, residing at 10 Nevay Road, received a fractured log while playing Soccer for the Miramar Rangers at the Polo Ground, Miramar. He was taken to hospital. W. E. Parks, residing at 11 Tasman Street, sustained a wound over the left eye while playing for Poiieke on the same ground. He was attended to by the ambulance and removed to the hospital for the purpose of having his wound stitched. J. Lipp and J. Mexted, who had falls in the city, had to be taken to hospital. Mexted, who resides at 13 May Street, sustained lacerated wounds over the left eye, while Lipp sustained severe scalp wounds and : concussion as the result of his fall, which occurred at the corner of Hunter Street and Customhouse Quay at 6.20 p.m. A mechanic, H. Riddler, sustained a fractured left forearm while working on one of the Harbour Board dredges at 10.10 a.m. He was hoisting a steel door, which fell on his arm. The ambulance took him to the hospital. While endeavouring to board a moving tram in Adelaide Road at 6.45 p.m., David Porteous, of 65 Ruba Avenue, received injuries to his right leg. After being attended to by the ambulance he was taken to his home. At 5.15 a.m. John McLean, a scholar, of 5 Kews Street. Lower Hutt, fell from his bicycle and received shvere wounds to the right ‘knee. The ambulance took him to the hospjtal. The total distance covered on Saturday by the vehicles of the Free Ambulance was 200 miles. ‘
