BUSINESS METHODS CRITICISED.

Some discussion arose at last night’s meeting of the Hutt County Council about certain proposed alterations being made to the building. It was stated that some work hdd beeu found necessary, in addition to that agreed ttpou at a reciffit council meeting, aud that the man ivho was at present engaged would carry out the Whole job nt a reasonable cost. Councillor S. G. Nathan said Im thought it ohly fight that tenders should be called for any work costing over £2O. The councillors were only trustees of the ratepavers, and should know exactly what was being done with the money. Time and again he had been forced to complain about moneys being spent without the council knowing anything at all about it until the time came to "foot the bill. The Work recently agreed upon was to cost £5O, and now they were told that this and that had to be done, and the man on the Job was going to do it. Hie best wav is to call for tenders, so tha. from the very start things would be done in a business-like way. It was decided to let the man at present employed finish the cash desk in the office he was working ou before dismissing him. TchderS would , u fr l )G called tor the remainder of the work.
