VIVIAN STREET

WIDENING PROPOSAL Before the revolutionary development of Courtenay Place, the prospect of Vivian Street becoming one of the main avenues of retail trade was more likely than it is to-day. On that account the City Council considered a widening project, and it was either actually desided or mooted that this street would be widened by some ten feet (as was done in the ease of Willis Streett) on the northern side. As the result of that the Salvation Army’s new citadel was set back the required distance from the old street alignment. But as time went on the proposal appared to have dropped into abeyance. Now the matter of the widening of this street has come under the notice of the authorities again.| It was referred to (in commitee) at Thursday’s meeting of the City Council, when full consideration of the project was postponed pending a report on property values by the city, valuer (Mr. MarUn).
