RAILWAY WORSHOPS FATALITY
LABOURER KILLED. (By Telegraph:—Press Association.) Auckland, May 11. An accident which occurred at the failway Workshope, Newmarket, this after, noon, resulted in the death of a labourer, Edward Reid, a single man, aged about 45, residing at Hendersoii. Another labourer, George Busby, of Epsom, received a severe scalp wound. Alter undergoing an X-ray examination at the hospital, he was taken to his homo. ’ .Steel waggon frames, each weighing between two abd three tons, were being unloaded, by means 01 a crane, froiri trucks on the siding alongside the engineering workshop. A frame had been lifted clear of the truck aud was being swung round preparator.v td being lowered when one of the chains slipped from the crane hook, and one end crashed to the ground, pinning Reid beneath it. When the frame was lifted lie was found to have sustained terrible injuries to the head and shoulders which must have caused practically instantaneous death.
