ANGRY SCENES
IN CANADIAN HOUSE OF COMMONS
Ottawa, May 4. There were angry scenes in the Canadian House of Commons when Mr. R. B. Bennett, the Tory leader, protested tjgalnst the Prime’ Minister dragging the name of Lord Willingdon, the Governor-General, into a controversy to influence a vote. The Premier sharply denied the charge. The Tories and the Progressives voted together in support of the Tory amendment, which was defeated by only 11 votes. It was over a vote of 150,000 dollars for the residence of the Governor-Gen-eral in Quebec Citadel that the discussion arose.
Mr. 11. H. Stevens (Conservative) said it would be ridiculous to spend 70.000 dollars on furniture and curtains.
Mr. J. D. Chaplin moved a reduction to 70,000 dollars. . Mr. J. S. Woodsworth protested against the introduction of the feudal system.
