FAREWELL TO MR. T. J. BURTON
On Wednesday night a farewell social and dance was tenderer! to Mr. 1. • • Burton, managing’director of Lever Bros. (N.Z.), Ltd., and Mrs. Burton and their daughter, who will leave on Tuesday for a six-montbs’ tour of the Old Country. The gathering was held in the social rooms at the works, Petone and was attended by all of the management, othce, and works staffs. Dancing and euchre took place until 10 p.m„ when supper was served, and immediately following supper the presentation of a leather travelling trunk was made to Mrs. Burton, and a pipe to Mr. Burton. . In making the presentation. Mi. W. F. Graham, director, expressed tue hope of all present that the trip would t-e beneficial to Mr. Burton, who had not been Home for seventeen .yearn. In reply, Mr. Burton expressed his appreciation of the spirit which prompted the gathering, and said that, no matter where he wont, he could not find a better esprit de corps than that ruling at Petone. The staff would not .-ave time to realise that he was gone before he was back again, and that though ostensibly his trip was a holiday, actually much of the time would be spent in seeing other and larger sOAP works H> America’ England, and on the Continent.
