THE RED MENACE

BOLSHEVIK MACHINATIONS IN BRITAIN RUSSIAN NOTES FOUND ON GUNMEN EFFORTS TO DESTROY OTHER GOVERNMENTS (British Official Wirelesi.) Rugby, April 19. Major Kindersley (Con.), in the House of Commons, asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the fact that Bank of England notes found on persons described as Irish gunmen, arrested before Easter for being in illegal possession of firearms, had been traced to Russian banking institutions in this country, he would make inquiries as to whether any moneys standing to the credit of the Russian trading organisations in this country were being used in attempts to foment and organise revolutionary action here. The Home Secretary (Sir William Jovnson-Hicks) replied that Major Kindersley’s information was correct. He was constantly making inquiries, nnd was satisfied that Russian money was being used in the way suggested, e (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (Rec. April 20, 8 p.m.) London, April 19. Referring to the official wireless report of the' Home Secretary’s statement, the chairmen of the Moscow Narodny Bank and the Bank of Russian Trade, the only Russian banks .in London, have written to Sir William JoynsonHicks denying any dealings with Irish gunmen. Sir William Joynson-Hicks, speaking at Learnington, repeated the statement that a Russian bank in Britain was subsidising crimes and seeking to destroy constitutional government. “What right,” he asked, “has Russia to go to Geneva with talk of world peace, while her emissaries, with her gold, are seeking to destroy the Governments with which slie professes to be on friendly terms.” LABOUR PARTY WARNED (Rec. April 20, 9 p.m.) London, April 20. Sir William Joynson-Hicks, speaking at Leamington, said: “I have the most complete evidence in my possession that a large number of Treasury Notes from a Russian bank here have passed into the possession of the Communist Party, and thence toe Communist organisers m all parts of Britain. There is a direct chain .from the Russian bank to Communist agitators in all the great cities in this land. I have warned the Labour Party over and over again that they are accepting help from the Communist Partv, and they declined to heed my warning that behind the Communists there is a movement to destroy the trade unionist organisations and Labour leadership.”

April 20, 7.30 p.m.) London, April 19. “The Tinies” Riga correspondent states that the Soviet has published a decree extending the Academy of Science by the inclusion of thirty-seven institutions apd eighty-five academical chairs. The academy is the only educational institution with which the revolutionaries have not interfered.
