SLEEP DISTURBED

PROTEST FROM KAIWARRA. A protest from the residents of Kaiwarra was recorded at the City Council meeting last night by the' Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), who said that the sleep of residents was being disturbed during the night by the noise of hammering in connection with the work of the Atlantic Oil Company. The council could not allow it to go on. Councillor 11. D. Bennett: If it is a nuisance they have an action at law. Councillor Luckie: They have their own remedy. The Mayor said the work was stopped in the daytime and carried on at night. Councillor Luckie said he believed it was dbno at night so that it would not interfere with the traffic in the daytime.

The .Mayor thought the engineer should bo instructed to look into the mattci’ and stop it under any conditions. Councillor McKoen remarked that when the City Council had such work it was done in the day and men were put on to direct the traffic, and he thought the Oil Company should employ men at each side of the job to direct the traffic past the job while it was proceeding. The Mayor: The citv engineer will find a way out of this. Some way must be found out of it, for the sake of the residents.
