PAHIATUA NOTES

Pahiatua, March 22. The annual harvest sale in aid of the Methodist Church funds was held on Tuesday and proved a great success. The stalls were crowded with goods of everv description, all of which : i promptly sold. The following were the stall-holders: Sweet and cakes, Mesdames E. A. Drake, L. G. Field and W. Greaves; produce and preserves, ■ Mesdames R. J. Collister and Ebbett, Messrs. E. E. Vile and R. Patchett; sewing, Mrs. C. A. Foston and Miss V. Woolridge; tearooms, Mesdames J. Willis and J. Manson, assisted bv Mesdames Hansen, Sirett, Wright and Miss Patchttt; toys and bran tub, Mrs. E- M. Staple®. Mrs. J. Willis is the local delegate at the annual convention of the W.C.T.U. which is being held at Napier. Mr. H. J. Johnson, of Waitou, Thames Valley, has been spending a holiday with his brother, Mr. O. JohnThe annual trials of the Makuri Sheep Dog Trial Club are being held at Makuri. Excellent entries have been received, and all the indications point to the fixture being a success. Yesterday, the opening day, was taken up with the Longhead competition, which was won by Mr. J_. Johnson (Takapau), A. W. Bissett being second and P. A. Bisset third. Mr W. A. Boagev, a former resident' of Pahiatua, is a visit to Pahiatua. . , , , , A Woodville nnk of bowlers, Offwood, Sprackman, Funke and James (s.), visited Pahiatua yesterday with a view of wresting the “Gosling Stars’ from the holders, Hodd, Russell, O’Conuor and Walsh (s.). The visitors put up a good fight for the coveted trophies, especially in the concluding stages of the game, but suffered defeat bv 6 points, the final scores being Pahiatha 27, Woodville 21. Some very Rood bowls took pln.ee. . Funke and James played well for their nnk, while Hodd, E. Britland, who was substitute for Russell, and O’Connor played good bowls for Pahiatua. Quite a number of interested spectators watched the match.
