ENDING SPEEDING
EASTBOURNE STREET CLOSED Last night the Eastbourne Borough Council decided to close Marine Parade from Windy Point to Rimu Street for through traffic. This action was taken on the recommendation of the Works Committee. The Mayor (Mr. H. M. Jones) explained that this did not mean that the street would be closed against the people of Eastbourne. The action was aimed at the speeding motorist. There was no doubt that needless danger existed in the street through speeding motorcars of joy riders, which normally used the main road, but which went past the wharf and then came round through this portion of the Parade. Notices Would be posted that the street was closed, and if this did not end the speeding further action would be taken. Ordinary traffic might continue using the street.
