The small, but prety, beach at Waipatiki has for some time been a popular picnic resort with Napier Sunday motorists. Of late, according to a resident in I hat locality, however, its popularity has been somewhat marred by the actions of certain visitors, who during the past few Sundays have arrived armed with .303 rifles, and in some cases with fowling pieces, and have amused themselves by shooting at birds during the course of the day (states the Nanier “Telegraph”). The menace from these operations is not confined to birds, however, for a shot from a .303 rifle earsies a long way, and indiscriminate shooting of this type is dangerous to a degree.
