A GUILD FORMED
GIRLS’ FRIENDLY HOSTEL. On Thursday afternoon over fifty ladies attended a meeting of the Diocesan Library, called by Airs. Sprott to form a guild to help in furnishing and paying off the debt on the new Girls’ Friendly Hostel, in course of erection in Vivian Street. Airs. Sprott presided and explained the object of the meeting, amt a guild was formed for three years to accomplish this purpose. Aliss Jenkyns was appointed secretary and a subscription of 2s. 6d. yearly was fixed. Alany offers of help were received, also donations to the society, and the sum of £5 was subscribed in the room for the new guild. Sub-committees were set up for entertinments, cake days, and work. A working committee will meet every second and fourth Tuesday in the month at Aliss Tendall’s house, 129 Ghuznee Street. Aliss Tendall also offered the use of her machine. The workers will commence on renovating curtains, etc., for the new hostel, and later will make goods for sale to get money for furnishings. Alessrs. liarcourt offered the loan of their auction room, which was gratefully accepted. Cake and flower sales will be held there every second and fourth Friday for three' months. Each sub-committee will elect its own officers, and it is anticipated that the necessary money will soon be raised. After the meeting all present were entertained by Mrs. Sprott at afternoon tea at Bishopscourt, Airs. Coleridge, Miss Campbell, and Airs. Rudolph Sprott assisting the hostess. Among the ladies present were Alesdames C." W. Earle, Marsh, Darling, M. Alyers, Batchelor, Mouat, Buck, Hansell," Johnson, Walker, Yeates, Rix-Trott, Ransom, E. Alartin, E. Anderson, Waghorn, Arthur, Green, H. Hall, Alacdonald, Wright, Fry, D. Anderson, Rawnslev, Porter, Johnson, Chatfield, Hoggard, Pow, Blath waite, Pearson, Webster, Richards, Sinclair, Lewis, Norman, Sykes, A. Hogg, and Birchell, Alisses Brandon, Tendall, Barnicoat, and Medley.
