Rather an unusual ease of twin calves is reported from Patutahi (says an exchange). Early in the season a cow calved, while just recently, about two months after bearing the first calf, another made its appearance with the same cow. It is assumed, although definite proof is lacking, that both «f these calves were from the same cow. The evidence is clear that the cow was the mother of the former calf mention'd, but ns regards the latter there is no direct proof. The cow was out grazing and naturally was not expected to calve again until next season. She was noticed one day with a week-old calf feeding from her, and it was too. late then to discover winch of the cows was actually the mother, and whether the cow in question was merely the mother by adoption, but one fact is made clear: After the birth of the first calf the cow’s milk supply was very small, and for that reason she was turned out, while after the second calf was seen ■with her she had a good flow of milk.
