PRAYER BOOK

REVISION COMPLETED BY HOUSE OF CLERGY CHURCH DOCTRINE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNION BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Copyright. (Rec. February 16, 7.40 p.m.) London, February 15. The House of Clergy has completed the revision of the Prayer Book. Several close divisions were recorded. One amendment, defeated by 82 votes to 74, proposed to forbid lights and other signs denoting that the Sacrament was reserved, the object being to prevent the Sacrament becoming a focus for worship.

A motion was carried by 93 votes to 84, requesting the Bishops to introduce rubrics preventing the worship of consecrated elements during public worship. The Dean of Canterbury, in seconding the motion, said many voted in favour of continuous reservation, but were anxious to ensure that the elements were used only for the communion of the sick. The Rev. Mr. Gotto, on behalf of Anglo-Catliohcs, denounced the motion as a denial of the doctrine of the Real Presence. The House carried by 79 votes to 57 a motion affirming that the alternative Communion did not change the church’s doctrine. It also agreed to a motion declaring it was permissible to attend Communion without fasting. —A.P.A. and “Sun.”
