There is a widespread impression that the outbreak of cattle tick on the coast will spread further afield; there are so many carriers of the pest that it is difficult to refute such statements, but all precautions are being taken to prevent stock being responsible for its spread. The Stock Department reports that all stock passing from the infected area to other P a jts are being sprayed, and that splendid co-operation is being evidenced by the drovers and settlers( states the Poverty Bay “Herald”). It has been found that after spraying both sheep and cattle display quite an improved appearance, the spray leaving the coats of the animals clean and shiny, and in the opinion of experienced farmers this adds to the values of the animals as a marketable proposition. One large line of sheep noticed on the road near Gentle Annie recently had come from the coast, and travellers commented pleasingly on the remarkably clean appearance of the sheep.
