HUTT VALLEY BOARD The Hutt Valley Electric Power Board met yesterday, the chairman (Mr. A. J. Hobbs) presiding Others present were Messrs. A. J. McCurdy, A. Anderson, S. Blacklev, H. W. Lawrence, E. Wiudley, A. Walker, J. W. McEwan, and H. Lodge (secretary). The engineer reported that poles had been erected at Belmont, Upper Hutt, Maori Bank, Riddiford’s Estate (Lower Hutt), and the new Wainui block, to pick up houses in course of-construc-tion. The total number of poles erected from January 10 to February 11, 1928, was 108. Accounts totalling £5897 10s. Sd. were passed for payment. The power fund account for the nine months ended December, 1927, totalled £44,755 Bs. 3d. The net revenue account amounted to £14,404 (is. Bd. Seventy-six consumers were tested, and 103 ■ connected, tn the eastern area during the period ending February 11, 1928; nine were tested and eight connected in the western area. The total number tested to date for both areas is 6876, as against 5157 up to the corresponding date last year, and the total number connected 6763, as against 5423 up to the'corresponding date last year. Forty-nine additional tests were made to existing installations. Five hundred and eighty-two electric ranges and 320 water heaters had been installed to date. One hundred and forty-seven permits were issued for the period. The chairman said that there was no likelihood of a further curtailment of current, and he thanked all consumers for their help during the shortage. His suggestion that until the position had been relieved, new connections should not be supplied with current, was ndoptr-d. In connection with the cutting-off of street lights till 11 p.m., the Hutt County Council wrote requesting that during the shortage of power the street lights in the county be not lit, and that the fees charged for the lighting be reduced pro rata for the period of non-lighting.
