Once there was a time when it was quite a common thing for citizens to take a header into the Avon before breakfast. But those were the days when the river was spoken of as a limpid stream (says the Christchurch “Sun”). Perhaps, however, the old conditions will obtain again, because of the improvement effected to the river bv the operations of the river sweeper. At anv rate, it is significant that the other afternoon a party of boys dived into the river from the Christ’s College boat sheds in Avouside and frolicked is Ike jyater.
