CROQUET

LOCAL TOURNAMENT I The eighth annual tournament held by the Wellington Croquet Association will commence on Tuesday next at Lower Hutt. The Hutt Bowling Club has placed ono of its greens at the disposal of the association, and the championships will >ie played there. The Waimarie and Lower Hutt Clubs have also granted the. use of the lawns, whilst the Hutt Tenuis Club, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, and .Mr. Baldwin have come forward with the offer of their greens for play, and offers have been gratefully accepted by the association. Altogether. nine greens will be in play. The entries number 220, which is an increase of \l9 over last year. With such a number of lawns, it is hoped to run the tournament through within a week, a4' a majority of the players leave immediately on its conclusion for Wanganui, to take part in the North Island tournament. The tournament will be under the management of Mrs. Earl McKefzie, assisted by a tournament committee comprising Mesdames Bock, Ber.aett, Cameron, Gowring, Rhodes-Willilims, Savage, Scott, Wilkinson.
