LABOUKEK, ADMITTED EOK SENTENCE. Various articles, including a tin ef salmon/a pair of binoculars, a tin ot sheep's tongues, a lady’s overcoat, and a handkerchief were displayed in tnu Magistrate’s Court yesterday when Sydney Charles Leckie. a labourer, aged 3b, was charged with breaking and entering the counting house of. the Wellington Croquet Club, and stealing clothing and money to the value of =22 Is., and with breaking and entering the house of danny Helena Speedy, Seatouu, stealing goods to the value of 3110 2s. 3d. . Detective-Sergeant Holmes stated that last month Leckie went through a house in Seatoun. Later he visited the pavilion of the Wellington Croquet Club, Mein Street. This took place at 4.3* a.m. A man, awakened by the barking of a dog, saw a man striking matches m the pavilion of the club. He called a neighbour, who rang; lor the police. Leckie was seen to come out of the pavilion ami bolt up the hill, throwin„ something among the shrubs as he did so. He also dropped an overcoat. i>e was caught by one of those folowing-a youth named Clark —and detained unti the arrival of the police. Ills explanation was that he had gone to the pavilion to get 2s. He was charged by the police with 'vagrancy, and when searched, evidence found on him showed that he had stolen from the pavilion. Other goods which connected him with break-, in" and entering the house at beatoun were also found. Later, the groundsman of the Mein Street reserve reported Harin" found a pair of field-glasses, which turned out to be those stolen from Seatouip Accused entered a plea of guilty to both charges, and was committed to the Siwremo Court for sentence. He was remanded to January f!5 on a charge of stealing an electric iron and cord, valued at £1 155.. at Plimmerton.
