WANGANUI NOTES

Wanganui. January 11. The Tasman flight aroused tremendous interest in Wanganui and was the one sole topic of conversation in the city yesterday. The announcement that the aviators were due to land at Trentham caused great enthusiasm and crowds gathered outside the various radio dealers in the city to hear news of the landing. The newspaper office telephones were going at high pressure requesting news of the intrepid airmen. By 7.30 both sides of the Avenue were .lined with motor-cars and crowds thronged the Avenue. As •the hours passed enthusiasm began to wane and fears expressed for the safe ai rival of the flying men. The crowds remained till after midnight. Again this morn'ng there were hundreds of telephone rings at the newspaper offices asking for any later news, there being many very genuine expressions of regret at non-appearance of the airmen. A delegate, speaking at the annual conference of booksellers, which was opened in Wanganui this morning, said the bookshops of the Dominion compared more than favourably with the book shops of other countries.
