YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES

A sale of New Zealand Guarantee Corporation ordinary shares at Bs. lid. reported at the morning call was the only transaction recorded yesterday. There was a fair demand for Government stocks, with buyers of the 4} per cents, at £96 15s. and the 5| per cents, at £lOl 2s. 6d. Wellington Racing Club debentures were firm at £lO6 10s. Bank shares were in better demand than on the previous day. There were bids of £6 14s. ex dividend for National Bank of New Zealand, £45 10s. for Bank of New South Wales,s9s. for Bank of New Zealand, and £l4 10s. cunt dividend for Union Bank. New Zealand Guarantee Corporation ordinary shares were firm at Bs. lid. New Zealand Insurance shares were wanted at 395. 6d., and New Zealand Refrigerating shares were firm, the ordinary at 16s. 6d. and the 10s. paid at Bs. 6d. Huddart-Parker ordinary shares were firm at 50s. and Wellington Woollen ordinary were steady at £6 ex dividend. There were buyers of Staples and Co. at 38s. 6d.. British Tobacco at 395. 3d., Burns, Philp and Co. at 38s. 9d., Newton King preference at 10s., and Taranaki Oil at 10s.
