UNITED STATES TARIFF
DOWNWARD REVISION SOUGHT DISCUSSION IN SENATE BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Copyright. (Rec. January 10, 8.45 p.m.) Washington, January 10. Unexpected precipitation of the movement to secure a downward revision of the tariff occurred in the Senate to-day, when Senator McMaster asked for action on his resolution putting the Senate on record as favouring tariff reduction during the present session. He intimated that relief for farmers could not otherwise be secured. A discussion lastinsr several hours followed. Senator Walsh said certain industries were entitled to increased rates. Senator Borah sad he favoured, increased duties on farm products. Various other Senators indicated particular industries that should be favoured. It is not considered likely, however, that the present - session of Congress will take any action on the tariff.
