NEW ZEALAND v. FRANCE

DOMINION TEAM SELECTED

Definite arrangements have now been agreed upon that the match France v. New Zealand will be played at Miramar on Wednesday and lliursday, January 18 and 19. The following have been selected to represent New Zealand:—

Singles: G. Ollivier (Christchurch). E. L. Bartleet (Auckland). Doubles: L. G. Knott and N. G. Sturt (Auckland)... The order of play in the match will be: Two singles on Wednesday, and two singles and one double on Thursday. M. Jean Borotra, the French captain, lias agreed to a suggestion to play an additional exhibition match on the first day, and nominated* C. Boussns-, the junior member of the team; the selection committe of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has decided that his opponent will be C. E. Malfroy, ex-junior champion of New Zealand.

[The selection committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association is to be congratulated on its choice of players to represent New Zealand against France. The teams should undoubtedly give general satisfaction. Although on their play in Christchurch during the New Zealand championships the positions of Ollivier and. Bartleet were practically assured, it is most pleasing that the committee has not lost sight of the merit of L. G. Knott and N. G. Sturt (Auckland) as a doubles combination. Despite their defeat in the final, they were unquestionably the best doubles’ pair in the New Zealand championship meeting. Also they are young plavers with many years before them, and the confidence reposed in them by the association should give an added impetus to their game. Nor could the committee have done better than select C. E. Malfroy to play the French junior, C. Boussus, in an exhibition* match.—“Forehand.”]
