9 INSPECTION DURING WORK NEW REGULATION Palmerston North, January 9. “With reference to regulation 283, which deals with the issue of a certificate by the authorised inspector,” wrote the Public Works Department to to-day’s meeting of the ManawatuOroua Power Board, “it is brought to notice that for this certificate to be of any value it is essential that inspections be made during the progress of the installation. Any defects discover>ed by the Department as a result, of ‘ independent inspections after the certificate has been issued will be reported to the Wiremen’s Registration Board, and the license of the registered inspector who issued such certificate will be brought under review.” In commenting on this in his monthly report, the engineer to the board, Mr. W. A. Waters, stated that' some power boards had objected, as it was felt that the license that should be dealt with was that of the wireman who wired the installlation in the first place. In connection with this question of inspection, he added, the new regulations made it necessary for the power boards to inspect every installation at least once very five years, which would considerably add to the cost of running the board’s scheme.
