THEFT OF TOOLS
CARPENTER ADMITTED TO PROBATION. "I took them honestly, Your Worship, for I understood from my clients „that everything in the house belonged to them.” Such was the explanation offered by William Georgo Weatherall, a carpenter, aged 39, who pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to stealing tools valued at .64 14s. Gd., the property of Gustav Eric Miller.. Detective-Sergeant Holmes stated that accused had been working oh an unoccupied house, the tools in question being in the cellar. When their loss was discovered .they were ' traced to Weatherall, who said that he merely used them to save him having to go a considerable distance for his own ones The Magistrate (Mr. J. 11. Salmon, S.M.) remarked that since the accused was a married man with five children, and since it was his first offence he would admit him to probation for a period of 12 months.
