“DANGEROUS MAN ON THE ROAD”

DRUNKEN MOTOR-DRIVER SENT • TO PRISON LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR FIVE YEARS i Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, January 7. “I cannot let this man off considering his record. I think he had better go to gaol,” said Mr. E. D. Mosley, SAI to-dav, in sentencing George Neve’ll, aged 42, to 14 days’ imprisonment for being intoxicated in charge ■of a motor-car on the mam South Road. , , . Nevell, who is, or rather was, a meat van driver, pleaded guilty to the intoxication charge, and also to breaking his prohibition order. _ Senior-Sergeant Lewis said tliat Nevell was seen driving a car at bockburn by a constable who became suspicious of the man’s condition and arrested him. Nevell was taken to the police station, where he was examined bv the police surgeon, who certified that he was drunk. Nevell drove a meat van and had also a private car. He was a very dangerous man to be on the road. Tn 1926 a prohibition order was issued against him, and last year he was fined £lO for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car. Further protestations were made but the Magistrate sentenced Nevell to 14 davs’ imprisonment. His license was cancelled for five years. On the breach of order charge he was convicted ana discharged. .
