The Australian national games carnival, held preliminary to the choosing of the Olvmpic competitors, commenced at Manly'Oval yesterday. All the leading Australian athletes tire competing. Carlton, who only landed from the New Zealand steamer this morning, won the 100 metres in 11 seconds. In the running high jumn 1- Mason (Victoria) created a new Stale record, clearing 6 feet 2 inches, defeating Davidson, the Australian and New Zealand title holder. Other winners wore: 110 metros hurdles, A. Watson (Victoria). 16 seconds. Throwing the javelin, O. Millgate (New South 'Wales). 146 ft. 3in. Two hundred metres. A. Walker (New South Wales), 22 3-5 seconds. Fifteen hundred metres, J. Marlin (New South Wales). 4min. 20 2-ssec. Ei'"ht hundred metres, C. Stuart (Now South Wales), 2min. 6sec. Running broad jump, C. Ebert (New South Wales). 22 foot. Hop. st on end inmn, E. Ebert. 45ft. lin., boat Winter, holder of the world’s record, who was out of form, by an inch. Tn the women’s events Miss Winter won the running high jump, clearing 4ft. 7in., establishing a State record. Aliss E.
