Several youths were checked in tlie streets of New Plymouth on Christmas Eve when the police insisted upon their discarding masks, wdiiskeis, wigs, and false, noses (says the Herald”). Threats of arrest were necessary in some Distances. lor at such a season frivolity is at its height. It was explained, however. that masqueradiuc in tlie streets was an offence against the law. Rarely in the history of tho Jamaica banana trade has there been so much activity as is being displayed at present. From the beginning of the year until last week-end more bananas had been exported than at any similar period in history. The number cannot, says Reuter, bo fewer than 17,250,000 bunches.
