MANAWATU new year TOURNEY •‘VICTORY FOR FRASER’S RINK ( Palmerston North, January 5: ■fi The weather was ideal, and condilibns almost perfect, for the comi’meiicemeiit of the post-sectional play of the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s ■New Year tournament, which Fraser’s rink won this morning. At the conclusion of the sectional play yesterday the following rinks were eligible for further play:—Pickering (Woodville), Crump (Palmerston North), Herdman '(Feilding), Mosris (Palmerston North), Johnson (Terrace End), Eckersley ■(Manawatu), Rendle (Eastbourne), [Drew (Bulls), and Fraser (Palmerston •North). Drew, owing to business ■pressure, was compelled to withdraw, and this simplified the draw for the first round of the post-sectional play. Shortly after the luncheon adjournment the four games of post-sectional •play were played, and they resulted as follow:— Terrace End (Christensen,'. ©’Grady, Grant, and Johnson, S.), 26, v.- Mana,watu (Holdoway, Davies, Williams, and .Eckersley, s.), 16. SEMI-FINALS. ~ Tn the semi-finals Crump went un'ifler to Fraser, and Herdman to John'son, Fraser and Johnson contesting |the final, which resulted in a decisive .victory for Fraser, 21--12, the game being concluded at the 20th head. ;■ The semi-final betwen Fraser and 'Crump was won by the former, 23— •20. Crump took the first head, Fraser '.taking the second. Play continued lin this strain until the fifth head, When Crump, led, 5—2.
