Champion broke the New Zealand record for 220 yards, held by Miss K. Miller, Otago, in the intermediate girls, by 5 seconds, covering the distance. in 2min 52 2-ssec. In the ICO yards’ ladies’ race Miss E. Stocklev was defeated by Miss D Magee, this being Miss Stockley’s first defeat for three years. The time for the race was 67 2-ssec. CHAMPIONSHIP TRIALS. At the Riddiford Baths, Lower Hutt, to-morrow afternoon at 2.30 p.in. the public have an opportunity of seeing in action, candidates for the national championships to be held at Dunedin at the end of this month. This will be the only opportunity of seeing the Wellington men competing before the big meeting, and, as this year the standard here is- very high, close struggles are expected. Among those competing is W. Cameron, the present intermediate 100yds. New Zealand champion, who recently covered 100yds. in (iOsec., and will attempt to better that time next Saturday. Another swimmer of note is D. Pelham, the present holder of the New Zealand fresh water 410yds. record, who also is renowned on the Rugby field, being a member of the Maori team which toured France. G. A. Rix-Trott, who is the holder of various local championships and who swam second to Lindsay at Auckland last year, will be endeavouring to secure his place for Dunedin. A varied programme of events, including plain and fancy diving and ladies’ and boys' races, has been drawn up and a fine afternoon’s sport is to be expected.
