ESTIMATED LOSS £3OO

Palmerston North, January 4. A burglary,, in which fur coats and necklets to the value of several hundreds of pounds were stolen, was perpetrated during the holidays at the shop of Mr. L. E. Collier, furrier and tailor, of Cuba Street, Palmerston North.

Mr. Collier stated that when he left the shop on Saturday evening—New Year’s Eve—it was locked securely, but that when he reopened this morning he noticed that the door had been forced. Inside there were many “dummies” lying stripped on the floor, and it was soon apparent that a considerable number of necklets were missing also. A till with the New Year’s Eve takings in it had not been noticed by the thief or thieves. The total value of the articles stolen, Mr. Collier further stated, he would not be able to tell until lie had finished taking stock, but even now it was apparent that he had sustained a loss of over £3OO worth of stock. An attempt had been made to enter the shop before Christmas, but had been unsuccessful.
