PARLIAMENT IN SESSION
FINALISING THE CUSTOMS BILL SEVERAL CHANGES IN TARIFF NEW WHEAT AND FLOUR DUTIES 'An attempt was made by the Government yesterday to complete the committee stage of the Customs Amendment Bill, but at the time ’of going to press the House was still discussing the schedules. Unsuccessful claims for protection through the tariff for the Onakaka iron industry kept one item under consideration until the supper adjournment, and in the division which was taken several Government members voted in favour of further consideration being given the matter. Several changes, including the proposed new duties on wheat and flour and the suggested further protection for the timber industry, were circulated, the intention being to take the debate after the schedules had been disposed of.
