NEW BEAR PIT

SOMEWHAT EXPENSIVE In Newtown Park a boar pit which is being constructed for the Reserves Committee, has been iu the making for months, and is yet unfinished. It is stated that the work commenced in March, when the formation of the pit was undertaken. The formal authority for the construction, however, did not come until June. Meanwhile the pit waited. In June a gang of men was put on the work, but found that the wet weather undid a good dea lof their labour. They shovelled out a lot of earth, and the rains washed much of it in again However, (hey shovelled it out again next day, and more besides. The pit is a large one. and is to hold eight or ten feet of wafer, with a flatfish place on which will bo tracks for the bears.
