ACCIDENT STATISTICS
Saysithe Auckland “Herald”:—“ln its pursuance of the new efficiency the police force has no time to attend to traffic trivialities. Commissioner McInveuey has ordered that the compilation of motor accident statistics should be discontinued. He seems anxious to w?sh his hands of transport iu all its ramifications.. This attitude brings another deficiency of the Motor Vehicles Act into prominence. The legislation should have definitely fixed the responsibility of keeping traffic accident data on some authority. It is a pity the police should shelve a function which is . taken seriously elsewhere in the world. Only a non-motorised police force would avoid taking an interest in traffic to this extent/’
